MONROE COUNTY, Mich. (WXYZ) - Police have identified a teenage girl who died late Tuesday in a Monroe County accident. She was on her way home from a fireworks show.
Police report the victim is 15-year-old Amanda James of Riverview.
Police say James was in a car with three friends when the driver lost control and hit the median on northbound I-75 near Newport Road.
It's reported that the car James was riding in was trying to go around a semi.
James was thrown from the car and then hit by another vehicle. She died at the scene.
Police say she was not wearing her seat belt.
The other three people in the car suffered bumps and bruises, but are expected to be okay.
Northbound I-75 at Newport Road had been shut down for hours, but has since reopened.
