MONROE, Mich. (WXYZ) - Some members of the wrestling team at Jefferson High School in Monroe have been punished by the school board for what the board said was hazing, bullying and assault.
The Board's decision came after lengthy closed door hearings for each of the boys who were accused. It is alleged the boys urinated on some of the freshmen on the team in the showers and held them down and assaulted them.
The board said it was clearly a violation of the district"s code of conduct.
The teens will remain on suspension, three of them until April 4th and one until February 16th and they are barred from playing athletics for the rest of the school year.
They can do their school work at home so they won't lose any credit, but the Monroe County Sheriff's department is still investigating the allegations and if any charges of sexual assault come down, and if any of the teens are found guilty, the suspension would become an expulsion and of course a conviction could mean prison time.
Lawyers for the teens say they don't anticipate that happening. They say they were disappointed in the board's decision, and parents were shocked as well saying they believe the whole thing was blown out of proportion.
The two wrestling coaches are still on administraive leave..
