HAZEL PARK, Mich. (WXYZ) - Officials say an 11-year-old brought a loaded 9 mm semi-automatic handgun to Hazel Park Junior High School

A letter dated February 26 was sent home to parents saying, "On Friday, February 15, a student brought a gun to Hazel Park Junior High. The gun was in the student's backpack in his lock for the entire school day."

It was only discovered when the student was involved in an incident near his home and the gun fell out of his pocket.

Police were called to the scene and took possession of the gun. School administrators were only notified about the incident a few days later.

Charges are being sought against the 11-year-old and others involved in the incident.
