NOVI, Mich. (WXYZ) - After her puppy went missing during a raid on a pet store, Lexis Swieczkowski has a new love in her life.
Randy Horowitz, the owner of Petland stores, saw Lexis’ mother tell her story on 7 Action News last week.
The girl had just received a puppy over Easter weekend, but it suddenly became sick and had to be returned to the Pet Station in Dearborn Heights where it was bought.
Later that week, the Humane Society raided the Pet Station. Its owner, Ramzi Dakhlallah, is facing a long list of animal cruelty charges and pet store violations.
In the mix of the chaos, Lexis’ puppy went missing.
Horowitz was heartbroken after seeing the story. “I just felt bad for them and I just knew I could do something for the community,” he told 7 Action News.
On Monday, Lexis and her mother, Christina Romaine, picked out a new puppy.
The goldendoodle, whom they’ve named Cooper, is a gift from Horowitz.
Cooper will also be sent home with a basket of toys, new cage, bedding and year’s supply of food.
“Thank you Randy for the new dog because I really like him and I’ll take care of him and feed him and walk him and stuff like that,” said Lexis, beaming with a bright smile.
