Clarkston police dept. cut amid budget deficit

CLARKSTON, Mich. (AP) - The village of Clarkston has eliminated its small police department in the face of a budget deficit.
As of 11 p.m. Friday the community was being patrolled by Oakland County sheriff's deputies instead of village police.
The department previously had a chief, one full-time officer, eight part-time officers and some reservists.
The Oakland County sheriff's department says Clarkston residents will continue to get full law enforcement protection. The county
previously handled Clarkston's dispatch and 911 calls, so officials expect a smooth transition.
The sheriff's department has similar arrangements with some other communities in the county.
