BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP, MICH (WXYZ) - As the community's signature fundraiser, the annual Bloomfield Township Classic Car Show gives car buffs the chance to drool over their dream ride, get a glimpse of a striped street machine or take a trip down memory lane - all in the name of charity.
"The Classic Car Show is a great venue to see some of the finest vehicles anywhere," said Greg Kowalski, director of Community Relations for Bloomfield Township. "Additionally, it has raised more than $40,000 for local charities since it began in 2005."
Most recently, the monies raised have supported the local efforts of the following charities
● The Bloomfield Township Firefighters Charities (BTFD) works year round to help fund burn treatment research, prevent juvenile arson, assist local individuals in need and support community-based assistance programs.
● The Bloomfield Township Police Benevolent Association focuses on assisting emergency personnel who have suffered some kind of loss.
● The Bloomfield Hills Optimist Club acts as a friend to local youth, providing enrichment activities, scholarships, mentorship and more to our next generation of leaders.
This year the car show, in its ninth year, returns to Mercedes-Benz of Bloomfield Hills (36600 Woodward). Held in conjunction with the Woodward Dream Cruise on Saturday, Aug. 17, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., the family-friendly event features more than 40 classic and specialty automobiles of all makes and models. Next door at Comerica Bank, the Bill Wells Car Club Classic will feature car clubs of various makes and models.
In addition to show cars, the event will feature a viewing area for the Woodward Dream Cruise with official merchandise sales, DJ entertainment, food, portable restrooms and a live broadcast by 97.1 FM "The Ticket." General parking is available for $5 and admission to view the vehicles is free.
