DETROIT (WXYZ) - Broadcast legend Diana Lewis received an official proclamation from the Oakland County Board of Commissioners.
The board honored her for an outstanding career. She received the proclamation at 7 p.m. in the Board’s auditorium on Wednesday night.
Lewis worked with 7 Action News until her retirement in October 2012. She was with the station for more than 35 years, and in journalism for over four decades.
“We are presenting her a proclamation for her tremendous contribution to the field of broadcasting,” Julia Ruffin, Oakland County Board liaison said. “Also, we are recognizing her for her vast community service.”
Station Manager Mike Murri and Channel 7 WXYZ-TV Vice President and General Manager Ed Fernandez were on hand to give Diana our heartfelt congratulations.
Diana has also received the Silver Circle Award, Governor’s Lifetime Achievement Award, and two Emmy Awards from the Michigan Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. She was inducted into the Michigan Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame.
She has supported the Minority Organ Tissue Transplant Education Program, the American Heart Association, City of Hope and Focus HOPE.
Lewis' daughter, Glenda is a WXYZ anchor and reporter. The two made journalism history as the first mother/daughter anchor team on the eve of Mother’s Day in 2004.
"On the heels of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, I am so grateful to have such a fearless, yet humble and kind groundbreaker as a mother," Glenda said. "She truly is a role model, and I'm so proud of her."
Al Allen of FOX 2 will also be honored for his broadcast career.
The auditorium is located at 1200 North Telegraph Rd. in Pontiac, MI.
