DETROIT (WXYZ) - An Oakland County doctor accused of unnecessarily giving patients chemotherapy and other treatments will go on trial October 18.
U.S. prosecutors say Dr. Farid Fata deliberately misdiagnosed and mistreated patients to fraudulently run up a $35 million Medicare bill.
Fata, 48, was arrested two weeks ago after federal agents raided his Oakland Township home and several offices. Fata owns and operates Michigan Hematology Oncology.
The felony charge can carry a 10-year sentence, 20-year sentence, or life if the fraud caused death.
Fata is currently being held in the Wayne County Jail on a $9-million bond.
