FARMINGTON, Mich. (WXYZ) - Three Farmington High School students teamed up to create an anti-bullying club.
Gabby DeFlorio, Sara Lucas and Erin Todd are the 11th graders who came up with "Stop the BAD". BAD is an acronym for bullying and discrimination.
It all started when Sara's friend was bullied. It was so bad, her friend switched schools.
"We decided we gotta do something", says Lucas.
The three students went to their principal and got teacher sponsors to get the club started.
After hearing an anti-bullying campaign on 98.7 FM, AMP radio, the girls teamed up with the radio station to host a motivational assembly. The featured speaker was Gabe Ford. She suffers from a neuromuscular disease and talks to students all over the country about the relentless bullying she endured. It was both verbal and physical.
Ford told the students "They called me names. Mean, hurtful names. Kids would shove me .. into the wall...into a phone booth".
At the assembly at Farmington High School, Ford reminded the students that bullying is a choice.
Students who spoke with Action News after the assembly said Ford's story was incredibly moving and made a powerful impact.
