TROY, Mich., (WXYZ) - I-75 has reopened after a fatal accident involving a semi and car early Monday morning.
Northbound I-75 was closed for several hours Monday morning closed near Big Beaver after an accident involving a semi-truck and car.
According to Troy Police, authorities were called to the scene of a truck fire on the expressway just after midnight. Upon arriving at the scene of the fire they discovered a car was lodged beneath the truck.
Captain Bob Redmond says a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix was traveling northbound on I-75 at about 25 mph with its flashers on when it was rear-ended and run over by the semi.
Both vehicles then exploded into flames.
Two people traveling in the car were killed. The truck driver was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
The identities of the deceased are being withheld. Police say their families have been notified.
The truck was carrying Art Van furniture.
