SPRINGFIELD, Mich., (WXYZ) - Police are on the scene of a fatal accident between a Waterford Schools school bus and a van.

The accident happened around 7:30 a.m. in the area of southbound Dixie Highway and Big Lake Road in Springfield.

Police say the bus was turning onto westbound Big Lake Road from northbound Dixie Highway just south of I-75. The van was traveling southbound on Dixie Highway at the time of the collision.

According to Oakland County Sheriff's Department the victim was a 58-year-old female from Springfield Township. They are not releasing her name at this time.

A spokesperson for the Waterford School District says there were 26 Waterford Kettering High School students on the bus. The bus was heading for the Oakland Tech Center where the students go for vocational training.

Michigan State Police report no students were injured in the accident. One, however, complained of a headache and was transported by EMS to be checked out.

Dixie Highway is closed just south of I-75 and traffic is heavy in the area. Police are recommending drivers take an alternate route.
