NOVI, Mich. (WXYZ) - A roaring fire raced though a huge home on Wintergreen Circle in Novi and the man who lives in the home was pulled out by firefighters and rushed to the University of Michigan Burn Center in critical condition.
It started just after 8:00 p.m. Tuesday night. A neighbor who called 911 says the wife told her she and her husband had been praying with candles in one of the rooms and afterward the wife ran out to the drug store.
When she came home she saw her house ablaze and was screaming that her husband was inside in a wheelchair.
A firefighter who pulled him out suffered heat exhaustion and was also taken to a hospital to be checked out, but was expected to be ok.
Novi Public Safety Director David Molloy says they arrived at the scene within 5 minutes of the call and were assisted by Lyon Township.
The home was fully engulfed and the roof collapsed from the intense flames. By the time it was over the house was a total loss.
Molloy says the cause is under investigation, the candles would be one possible cause that will be investigated.
Many people in the neighborhood came out to see the spectacular blaze and everyone was saddened to hear about the man who was trapped and they were of course hoping and praying he will recover.
