FERNDALE, Mich. (WXYZ) - Flags will be lowered to half-staff today in honor of a fallen soldier from Ferndale.

Staff Sgt. Matthew J. Leach died in Kandahar, Afghanistan on June 26 during his third combat deployment. The Pentagon didn't release the circumstances of his death.

Funeral services will be at the Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 Belford Road in Holly at noon today.

Leach was 29 years old. He leaves behind a wife and an infant son.
