(WXYZ) - Dr. Jumanne Sledge resigned Monday as Deputy Superintendent with Inkster School District after being indicted for allegedly taking money from Pontiac School District while working as their Assistant Superintendent.
Sledge was indicted Tuesday on charges of fraud and money laundering. He's accused of taking $236,000 from Pontiac School District for his own personal use.
Sledge is one of a dozen people targeted in a federal probe into financial misconduct in the Pontiac Schools. If convicted, he could face up to ten years for the fraud charge, and up to 20 years for the money laundering charge.
7 Action News Investigator Bill Proctor reported last month that federal officials seized Sledge’s Jaguar XK8 and money from his personal bank account as part of the probe.
Inkster School District Superintendent Mischa Bashir issued a press release Tuesday morning confirming Sledge's resignation.
