TROY, Mich., (WXYZ) - Former Troy mayor Janice Daniels is running for City Council.
Daniels is one of 11 candidates trying to secure a seat on the Troy council in the November election.
She was elected mayor of Troy in 2011 but voters removed her from office last year. She was recalled over her anti-gay remarks and opposition to the $8.4 million transit center.
In 2011, after the state of New York legalized gay marriage, Daniels posted “I think I am going to throw away my 'I love New York' carrying bag now that queers can get married there” on her personal Facebook page. Daniels wasn’t mayor at the time. The post went viral.
