ROYAL OAK, Mich. (WXYZ) - Ten years after Charlotte Ponce was mauled by a raccoon, her first major face reconstructive surgery is over and she is out of the hospital.
Charlotte’s doctor says he's pleased with the results of the 9-hour procedure on her nose. Doctors used skin from her wrist to reconstruct her nose.
7 Action News met Charlotte and her parents Wednesday at Royal Oak Beaumont. Charlotte was in a lot of pain Wednesday morning and her arm was sore, but she is expected to return to Spring Lake on Thursday or Friday.
Charlotte’s doctor says he would like to work on her nose and lip in the winter and her ear in the spring.
Her expected recovery time is 6 to 8 weeks, according to doctors.
