ROYAL OAK, Mich (wxyz) - Health officials are urging people going to the Dream Cruise or any outdoor event to remember the bug spray.

They say this could be the worst year for the West Nile Virus.

Many people watching cruisers along Woodward say they haven't really been thinking about spraying because it's been a hot summer and there hasn't been that much rain or standing water, but health officials say it only takes one bite from a mosquito that is carrying the virus.

Kristen McEwen is a Royal Oak mom who says after hearing the warning she will be spraying her kids.

Kristen's son, Connor, says he wants to be sprayed now that he knows mosquitos can be dangerous.

A woman in Washtenaw County has died from the West Nile Virus and officials want to make sure everyone is aware of that so they will protect themselves.

So remember, spray and wear long sleeves if possible. Make sure there is no standing water near where the children play.
