TROY, Mich. (WXYZ) - Defense attorneys for Patrick Mikes Jr. say they are not ready to mount an insanity defense.

The issue came up today at a hearing in the case.

The defendant is accused of killing his father Patrick Mikes Sr. in their house in Troy and then dumping his body in Genesee County.

Today in court, the defendant’s attorney told the judge he would like to be able to send in his own doctors to the Oakland County Jail to assess the 21-year-old.

But prosecutors argued unless they’re asserting an insanity defense, they must follow the proper process.

That process begins with an independent evaluation at the Center for Forensic Psychiatry.

The judge sided with prosecutors.
