(WXYZ) - Jury selection is set to begin in the Cipriano murder trial.
Rose Cipriano is asking for a plea deal despite the fact that her family was torn apart by a heinous crime. Her son Tucker and his friend Mitchel Young are being tried for murder.
The two are accused of beating Tucker's father, Bob to death with a baseball bat. Rose and her Son Salvatore - who is still in the hospital - suffered critical injuries.
Rose is asking for a plea deal with a 40 to 50 year sentence. She believes a trial would be too painful, especially for her 9-year-old daughter who witnessed the crime.
She wrote, "I suspect that they merely want the emotional picture of my 9-year-old on the stand talking about the killing of her father. In other words, they want her as a prop for their production."
Oakland County Prosecutor Jessica Cooper says the trial will happen.
She said it is her job to make sure no one else suffers at the hands of such individuals. She also said rules prevent her from talking with the media about the terms of a possible plea deal.
Jury selection is set to begin this morning.
