SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WXYZ) - With her kids grown and out of the house, Yvonne Gibson suddenly found herself with some spare time and thinking about a small business.
"This is a great concept," says Gibson.
So she launched "iPaint Creations" after visiting a similar business in New Orleans.
"It was so relaxing, so therapeutic," says Gibson. "I was like 'oh maybe I should bring that concept to Detroit'."
So at age 50, the Detroit resident set up shop in Southfield and held the grand opening this week.
"This concept is for the novice, you don't have to know how to paint," says Gibson.
Everyone begins with a blank canvas and they then choose a piece to reproduce from 150 pieces of art in the shop's portfolio. Local artists, whom Yvonne has hired, walk people through it step by step.
A visit costs $30. There will be classes, summer camps, and Gibson hopes it becomes a go-to spot for fundraisers and parties like bridal and baby showers.
People can bring their own food and cocktails.
Gibson says it was unnerving opening a startup business, and while she still works her first job in health care, she hopes this second job will put some more money in her pocket and fulfill a dream of being an entrepreneur.
The business is located at 12 Mile and Northwestern in Southfield.
