Pair charged in throat-slashing murder of 80-year-old Royal Oak woman

ROYAL OAK, Mich. (WXYZ) - Oakland County Prosecutor Jessica Cooper announced Monday that Alan Wood and Tonia Watson have now been charged with the murder of Nancy Daily who was tied up and had her throat slit.

The killing took place November 20 in the home of 80-year-old Daily.

Last month, Royal Oak police said they found what they believed to be the knife used in the killing . It was found after digging through the Woodward Avenue median, between 11 Mile and 12 Mile Roads.

Wood, 48, is charged with First-Degree Premeditated Murder, Felony Murder, two counts of Unauthorized Use/Possession of a Financial Transaction Device and Larceny in a Building.

Watson, 40, is charged with Felony Murder and the Unauthorized Use/Possession of a Financial Transaction Device and Larceny in a Building.

Both murder charges could lead to life in prison.

At the time of the crime, Wood and Watson were on the run after having skipped out on parole. The two had been staying at motels in the Royal Oak area.

A clerk at one of the motels said they had to kick the couple out on October 30th for non-payment. About a week later, an investigator with Michigan’s Absconder Recovery Unit went to the motel but Wood and Watson were already gone.

Wood and Watson were arrested in Canton last month .

State records show Wood has previous convictions for Home Invasion, Arson and Breaking and Entering. He was released from prison about a year ago.

Watson has served time for multiple convictions including Carrying a Concealed Weapon and Escape from Felony Jail Sentence.
