NOVI, Mich. (WXYZ) - From the Oakland County Jail, Robert Michael Lanzilotti was arraigned by video into a 52-1 District courtroom in Novi.

The 22-year-old is  now charged with a list of crimes that include Assault With a Dangerous Weapon and Careless Discharge of a Firearm Causing Injury as well as additional firearms charges.

On December 27, 2011 around 2:00 a.m. Cameron Boch was shot in the face inside a of a Commerce Township home.  It was believed to have been accidental and that Boch had found Lanzilotti’s  gun and loaded it.

It was also suspected that when Boch went to return the weapon it  discharged.

Later, witnesses told police Lanzilotti intended to scare Boch when the gun went off.

In court, it was noted that Lanzilotti served as specialist in the Army and currently worked for the Army Reserves.  He returned from serving his country in Afghanistan last summer.

He did not have an attorney in court.  The judge plans to appoint him a lawyer.

Lanzilotti’s family was in court to support him. “Robert is a good kid,” says Lanzilotti’s aunt Linda French.

The judge ordered that he has no contact with Boch, Boch’s family, or any witnesses.

His preliminary exam is set to happen later in the week.

Meanwhile, the prosecutor in the case told the court Boch has been removed from intensive care and is now in a rehabilitation center.
