SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WXYZ) - Southfield police have arrested four men in connection with a shooting that took place Friday night in the parking lot of a T.G.I. Friday's restaurant.

Police say a 23-year-old man was shot in the leg during an armed robbery outside the restaurant. He was later taken to the hospital. They say they expect him to recover.

The restaurant is located on Evergreen, just south of 11 Mile Road, across the street from the Southfield police station.

The robbery and shooting took place just after 6 p.m. and the parking lot was busy with restaurant patrons and customers of nearby businesses.

Brandy Avery was surprised that a shooting would happen at that particular location, "In Southfield? Near the police station? I'm shocked," she said.

Southfield police say officers stopped a vehicle that matched a description of the one driven by the suspects in the shooting. They followed the suspects along the Lodge Freeway and then boxed them in around 7 Mile and Mark Twain.

They say four people were arrested after the vehicle was stopped. All are between the ages of 19 and 21.

Searching for the weapon used, police shut down the southbound Lodge Freeway between 7 Mile and 8 Mile Roads Friday night, reopening it just before 8:00 p.m.

Police tell 7 Action News they recovered items stolen from the man who was shot in the vehicle they stopped.

The suspects who are locked up in Southfield will likely be arraigned this weekend and police say the charges could be armed robbery and attempted murder.
