AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (WXYZ) - Police in Auburn Hills are asking for help as they work to catch a purse snatcher who struck Monday night at a Meijer store.
They say a 68-year-old woman had her bag stolen by a man who stopped to ask her directions in the parking lot of the Meijer store located at 800 Brown Road, near I-75 and Joslyn Road.
Police tell 7 Action News that the woman was riding on a motorized shopping cart when the suspect approached her and her husband and explained that we was from out of town.
The suspect then grabbed the woman’s purse from a basket on the motorized cart and he fled.
The woman’s husband tried to chase him on foot and she attempted to get out of her cart, but police say she fell to the ground and was injured.
Security cameras were able to capture an image of the suspect’s silver SUV as he sped away from the Meijer parking lot. Police say it may be a Ford Explorer.
The suspect is described as a white man with a mustache and goatee. He’s believed to be in his mid twenties and is about 5’9” tall and 180 lbs. When the theft took place at 11:30 p.m. Monday, he wore a blue shirt and dark blue jeans.
