Mom of murdered child files lawsuit in Oakland County Child Killer case

DETROIT (WXYZ) - The mother of a young victim in the 1970’s Oakland County Child Killer Case has filed a lawsuit against several names in Oakland County including Oakland County Prosecutor Jessica Cooper.

The mother, Deborah Jarvis and her attorney Paul Hughes held a news conference Tuesday in downtown Detroit.

Jarvis spoke publicly about the case for the first time in years, “Tomorrow would have been Kris’ birthday. For me, it will always be her 11 ^th birthday.”

Jarvis is the mother of victim Kristine Mihelich.

The lawsuit contends that the people who have led the Oakland County child killer case have continually obstructed the case and have not been forthcoming with the four victims’ families. They also claim intimidation, in that in 2011 they were asked to provide DNA samples for no real reason.

The attorney who is filing the lawsuit, Paul Hughes, also says there may be been way more than four victims. He says there were at least four other children abducted and killed between 1972 and 1981 in metro Detroit.

Hughes is asking for all documents to be turned over to the Department of Justice and for it to begin its own investigation into the case. He is also asking for $100,000,000.

The high-profile case dates back to the mid 70s when four children were abducted along the Woodward Corridor between 1976 and 1977. All were murdered and the case was never solved.

Oakland County Prosecutor Jessica Cooper and Sheriff Mike Bouchard, two defendants in the lawsuit have dismissed the suit. Some experts say this lawsuit has very little chance of going very far.
