BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WXYZ) - Police are putting out the alert: Do not send checks to pay bills from your own mailbox.
This is the fourth time this year police in Bloomfield Township are issuing this alert.
This past weekend, 10 people had their mail stolen. People contacted their banks and closed their accounts and took other safety measures.
Police believe the thieves are looking not just for the checks but also the account and routing numbers on the checks. Plus they know to look for the flag up on the box.
Police advise you to pay bills online or take your mail to a public drop box or to the post office.
Police have no leads and are advising people to be on the lookout for anyone suspicious in their neighborhood.
