HAZEL PARK, Mich. (WXYZ) - The Hazel Park School District is avoiding an Emergency Manager, at least for now.
According to Steve Watripont, the Director of Business Services for the Hazel Park School District, the Local Emergency Financial Assistance Loan Board found that the district is not financially stressed and is making plans to be out of its current deficit by June 2015.
This avoided a formal review by the state that could have led to the appointment of an Emergency Manager - if that review found the district was under financial stress.
The revelation comes just a month after the school district revealed it was undergoing a financial review that could have led to a state takeover.
At the time, published reports said Hazel Park had a deficit that would reach $3.3 million by the end of that month.
