COMMERCE TWP., Mich. (WXYZ) - Officials say they have recovered the body of a missing man who disappeared in Wolverine Lake Friday night.
The discovery came after after the search resumed Saturday morning. crews were pulled from the lake Friday night due to weather.
Rescue crews were called to the Commerce Township lake around 4:30 Friday afternoon after boaters noticed a man in the water, calling for help.
When the rescue crew arrived, the man had already disappeared into the water.
"We believe he might have been in the water swimming, however his boat was not anchored, it was not running and the ladder was down," said Acting Wolverine Lake Police Chief John Ellsworth.
Divers with the Oakland County Sheriff's department were called to assist in the search, however unfavorable lake conditions hampered the recovery effort.
T here is at least eight feet of soot on the bottom making visibility next to zero.
The victim is believed to be a 62-year-old man from the metro-Detroit area. His extended family has been coming to the lake for years and we're told he was known to be an experienced swimmer and boater.
