WATERFORD, Mich. (WXYZ) - There are still thousands of people without power tonight and some of them will not see power restored until Monday night.
As of 9:30 pm Saturday night DTE still said they still have about 30,000 customers without power.
A neighborhood in Waterford has been suffering in the heat without power since Thursday. That is where we found power lines draped over a grill and play set behind two homes. DTE taped the area off and told 7 Action News that it is safe. Neighbors told us the homeowners are staying elsewhere until it gets fixed.
“It is very frustrating,” said Richard Pawlowski who lives nearby. He said a crew looked at the wires on Thursday. “They took a look at it. They had a crew out here which I’m assuming is a subcontractor. They cut down the limbs that were on the high tension lines and we haven’t seen anybody since,” he said.
One street over Logan Lucero finally opened her windows this evening when the temperature outside fell below the toasty 86 degrees inside her house.
“I feel bad, yeah, for myself, but we also have elderly people living on this street. This street is filled with little kids and stuff like that,” said Lucerno. She said it has been extremely frustrating, especially because DTE told them their power has been restored already.
“They’ve called us and told us that it’s been restored like three times now. Actually one of the times my husband was home with the generator running and was like, want to make a bet? No, it’s not,” said Lucerno.
Their generator runs a few fans and keeps the food in the fridge from going to the dogs, but that’s exactly where the contents of Geneva Tuck’s fridge are going after today.
“Just make the best of it. I’ve shut off my refrigerator and freezer, but of course there won’t be anything good left over,” said Tuck.
The Oak Park woman has been without power since Friday. Tonight she will do the only thing she can do unless the power comes back on.
“I was just getting ready and there wasn’t anything else to do so I thought I’d just go to bed because I don’t want to sit in the dark,” said Tuck.
The majority of the power outages still remaining are in Oakland and Wayne counties.
