Royal Oak, MI (WXYZ) - Approximately 2,000 people turned out in support of the Rainbow Connection's 11th annual "Walk for Kids" at the Detroit Zoo.
"Making dreams come true for Michigan children is what the Rainbow Connection is all about," said Mary Grace McCarter, the executive director of the non-profit organization based in Rochester, Michigan.
Rainbow Connection makes wishes come true by granting wishes for Michigan children with life-threatening illnesses.
"We've been doing it since 1985. We're on wish 2,664 right now and we're very, very proud of it. We've never turned a child away and seeing the smiles on those faces makes all of us so very happy and gives us all the gifts that we could possibly ever hope for."
The zoo walk is one of six held across the state of Michigan in 2013. They represent the organization's largest fundraiser.
