OAK PARK, Mich. (WXYZ) - Police have a suspect in custody in the murder of a 19-year-old man near Dewey Park in Oak Park.
Officers say Thomas Carr and a friend were helping Carr's mother move when they got a call from another friend who said he needed a ride.
Carr and his friend went to Oak Park to give the man a ride, dropping him off at Dewey Park. Police say Carr and the friend who was helping his mother move were in the front seat and the third man was sitting in the back.
Officers say, when the group arrived at Dewey Park, the third man shot Carr in the head from the backseat. He then forced his way into the driver's seat and drove the car deeper into the park.
Police say that Carr's friend has told officers the third man then forced him to take Carr's body out of the car.
It was at this point that Carr's friend says they struggled over the gun. After a brief fight, the third man was able to regain control of the weapon.
He then reportedly told Carr's friend "You have five seconds" and Carr's friend ran from the scene.
Police say the third man then left the scene, leaving the car and Carr's body behind. He was arrested later at another location.
