SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WXYZ) - A police chase through parts of Detroit's east side ended with a robbery suspect  being shot by a Southfield Police officer.

The 19-year-old robbery suspect was shot in the buttocks and is expected to be okay.

Police say he is suspected in a string of recent armed robberies targeting hotels and 7-11 convenience stores in Southfield, Troy, Warren, Centerline, Roseville and Grosse Pointe.

One Southfield officer fired multiple shots after the suspect crashed the stolen white Honda he was driving and took off on foot.

A spokesperson for Southfield Police says it does not appear the suspect fired any of the shots.

Witnesses say they heard about ten gunshots shortly after the suspect  crashed the Honda and took off running in an alley and then in between homes on Reno Street near Seven Mile Rd.

The investigation is ongoing.
