WIXOM, Mich. (WXYZ) -
Police say they have forensically linked bullet fragments from seven of the random shootings along the I-96 corridor.
Six of the linked shootings were in Wixom, one was in Livingston County. Police are not saying what kind of weapon was used in the shootings.
However, officers say that in another case they have determined at a 9 mm was used. However, they are not yet linking that gun to the seven shootings they have forensically linked together.
There have been 22 shootings along the I-96 corridor in all.
Police believe all of the shootings are linked and a task force has been formed to investigate the case. However, not all of the cases have been linked together forensically.
All of the shootings took place over a three-day period. No one has been injured and no new shootings have occurred since last week.
Police say they have received well over 200 tips in relation to the case. Those tips have led to police to create a composite sketch of a possible suspect. He is believed to be a man in his 30s.
Investigators say they are not sure if he is acting alone.
Several schools in the area where shootings took place have been in a partial lockdown. Students have not been allowed to have outdoor recess.
Those schools include Wixom Elementary, Loon Lake Elementary, Sara Banks Middle School, and Walled Lake Western High School.
Officers are encouraging anyone with information about the case to call police. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is offering a $10,000 reward and Crime Stoppers is offering an additional $1,000 for a total of $11,000, for information leading to the arrest of those responsible.
