Bluz Tattooz and Body Piercings in Waterford is trading tattoos for canned goods. “Our clients are taking advantage of helping the community but I also think they are taking advantage of the fact that they can get a cool tattoo for twenty bucks so everybody benefits,” said owner Dan Collins.
Collins and his wife Lori have seen the need and thought they could trade their talents to help the food bank stay stocked up. “People are starvin’ man, times are tough. It's not like we could collect cars for people or housing for people. This is a simple kind of effective thing we're doing and seems to be working,” said Collins.
Even Dan was surprised when he opened the doors this morning. He says there 40 people lined up out the door.
In the first hour they collected over 1300 cans of food. “That's a lot of people that are going to eat, you know? “
At last count Bluz Tattooz and Piercings have done more than 20 tattoos and 20 piercings and have collected over 2000 cans of food.
Jessica Charder got a tattoo and piercing. “Gleaners has helped my family when I was younger and it feels great to give back, you know be able to help someone else in the same position I was in when I was younger.” Charder said. “It feels like somebody’s pinching you. I find it pretty relaxing actually.”
