(WXYZ) - With his daughter Mary by his side, Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson spoke for the first time in a news conference since his August car accident.
Several times during the news conference Brooks Patterson was overcome by emotion as he expressed gratitude for the thoughts and prayers he received while in the hospital.
He talked about the recovery process and how he was unconscious for 17 days after the accident. Brooks Patterson says he is going through very aggressive therapy and says he's hoping to be back on his feet soon.
He spoke about taking 168 steps on his own and began to tear up talking about it.
Both Patterson and his driver were injured August 10 when their car was hit by another driver. Neither man was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Patterson suffered various injuries in the crash, including broken bones. He has been recovering at various rehabilitation facilities since then.
