YPSILANTI, Mich. (WXYZ) - Eastern Michigan University police officers will soon be equipped with tasers.
EMU says 33 tasers have been purchased for its officers. The university says the move will reduce the chance of violent incidents on campus and ensure the safety of officers and others.
EMU officers will go through a training program and are expected to be carrying tasers on campus in January 2013.
Michigan State and Wayne State are among other Michigan universities already using tasers.
Eastern Michigan has scheduled several forums to discuss the matter. The first are scheduled for 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12 in Room 352 at the EMU Student Center.
