PITTSFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WXYZ) - The Washtenaw County Sheriff's Department warned drivers to avoid the area of southbound US 23 and I-94 for several hours on Tuesday.
An accident in the area of southbound US 23 and Michigan Avenue shut down the freeway.
Traffic was diverted off of US 23 onto I-94.
Police say their preliminary investigation indicates that a "bobcat" type construction vehicle was hit by a semi when it failed to yield and attempted to cross the freeway.
The bobcat's driver was ejected and was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in Ann Arbor with serious injuries. The driver of of the semi suffered minor injuries and was also taken to St. Joseph's Hospital.
US 23 has since reopened.
