ANN ARBOR, Mich. (WXYZ) - Student Doctor Stephen Jenson is suspected of bringing child porn into the University of Michigan Hospital on a flash drive.
He was somehow able to continue treating children and adults long after the disturbing images were first discovered.
Last May a fellow student told hospital security she found child porn on a hospital computer Jenson had used. For a variety of reasons now under intense scrutiny, hospital security and other officials took six months to alert campus police. That was a communication gap the university calls a failure.
"We are determined to correct this so it never happens again," says spokesperson Rick Fitzgerald.
When campus officers were finally alerted in November, within days they obtained a search warrant and say they collected eighteen pieces of evidence from Jenson's home.
The thirty-six-year-old med student was questioned, arrested and arraigned on four counts of child sexually abusive material.
We are told he would not have seen young patients alone and that none of the children appearing in the child porn were ever patients at the University Hospital or Mott Childrens Hospital.
Jenson is free on personal bond and is due back in court next month.
