YPSILANTI TWP., Mich. (WXYZ) - A piece of broken off yellow tape is all that remains of a crime scene on the 600 block of Calder in Ypsilanti Township.

Brandon Charles, 27, was gunned down inside his vehicle Tuesday night.

The strange twist in this case: Charles, is a victim in a separate road rage case.

He was supposed to face his attackers at their preliminary exam Wednesday morning.  It is not clear whether he was to testify.

Charles was also shot on January 1, 2013.

He was leaving the MGM Grand Casino with a woman in his Range Rover near Bagley in downtown Detroit when he became the victim of another driver’s road rage.

Two men in another vehicle chased him onto the Lodge, according to Michigan State Police. The victims were then chased onto I-94 where a suspect sprayed bullets into Charles’ SUV.

Both the victims were hit, taken to the hospital and survived.

Investigators from the sheriff’s department are in communication with the state police.

Police can only say at this point, the coincidence definitely raises suspicion.

“Right now, there’s really limited information that we have,” said Derrick Jackson, a spokesperson with the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators ask anyone with information on Charles’ murder who want to remain anonymous to call CRIMESTOPPERS at 1-800-SPEAK-UP or they can call the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office at 734-973-4911.
