Ypsilanti, Mich. (WXYZ) - Here’s something we don’t see too often: The First Lady doing “The Dougie.” Michelle Obama broke out her best dance moves to promote her Let’s Move campaign in Washington D.C. on Tuesday, but schools across the country got down with her.

In a coordinated effort, students nationwide performed a flash dance to Beyonce’s “Move Your Body” song. Nearly 35 eighth graders at Ypsilanti Middle School participated in their gymnasium. The idea is to teach kids that exercise and healthy living doesn’t have to be a chore.

“It's important because we want to get our students to move more,” said principal Kimberly Ferrell. “We know childhood obesity is rampant, and so we're just trying to get our students more active, trying to eat healthier.”

The flash dance was supposed to be a one-time deal, but Ferrell had Tuesday’s performance taped so the remaining 500 students in school could learn the routine. She hope the entire school will be able to perform the dance together before the end of the school year.
