112-year-old mom celebrates Mother's Day

INKSTER, Mich. (WXYZ) - Mothers across the country were celebrated on Sunday, but Channel 7 is saluting one mom who has been the guest of honor for more than 70 years.

Jeralean Tally is 112 years old, and her daughter, Thelma Holloway was gushing about celebrating another Mother’s Day together. “I’m proud that she’s still living,” said Holloway.

The women enjoyed a breakfast together at the New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church on Sunday before attending services.

Tally, who is known as “grandma” to most of the family’s friends, said it was her faith in God that kept her going. “Everything comes from Him above,” said Tally. “Regardless of what you do for me or what I do for you, if it wasn’t for Him above, you wouldn’t be able to do it.”

Born in 1899, Tally has experienced things that children read about in history books now, but her wisdom to parents is timeless. “If they try to do wrong, take time and let God direct you before you do anything," said Tally.

Tally will celebrate her 113 ^th birthday on May 23.
