DEARBORN, Mich., (WXYZ) - The man accused of killing two young people in Dearborn was in court Wednesday for a preliminary hearing in the case.
However, Lavere Bryant's attorney requested that the hearing be delayed until August 21. The judge agreed. The preliminary hearing will now be held on Wednesday, August 21 at 8:30 am.
The preliminary hearing will determine if there's enough evidence to put the convicted sex offender on trial.
Today's hearing got off to a rocky start when Bryant was two hours late. Originally, a court official told the judge that Bryant was put on a transport bus and taken to the wrong court.
However, 7 Action News has since learned that a paperwork mix-up prevented Bryant from getting on the bus at all, according to Wayne County Officials.
Bryant is charged with the murders of Joe Orlando and Brenna Machus, two employees at a Family Dollar store in Dearborn.
Police say the two 20-year-olds were shot to death at the store July 16. Machus' body was later found in a wooded area not far from the store.
