GROSSE POINTE FARMS, Mich. (WXYZ) - The Grosse Pointe Farms Police Department believes they have finally been able to identify a man who died while jogging Friday night.
The reason no one knew he was missing because it appears his wife has been out of town in Maine.
Police released a sketch of the man late Saturday night. He is in his mid 60s. He died while jogging along Grosse Pointe Boulevard on Friday night. The man did not have any identification on him so police could not figure out who he was and even ran his fingerprints but he was not in the system.
Police believed there was a good chance that the man lived somewhere in the area of where he had been jogging. A police officer had been driving around the neighborhood running license plates and matching driver’s license pictures to the photo they had. When the officer thought he found him he went to his home and found a note on the door from the neighbor. The note said for the man to call his wife because she could not reach him and was worried. The neighbor identified him from the man as the person in the sketch.
Police are still waiting to release the man’s name until a positive identification can be made, but they have talked with his wife and are 99 percent sure it is the same person.
The man is described as being in his mid 60s with gray hair. He is 6'1" with a slender build and weighs 180 pounds. He was wearing dark jogging shorts and a gray t-shirt.
An autopsy is pending. Police do not expect foul play in the man's death. They believe he died before he fell to the concrete because he did not brace his fall.
