HARPER WOODS, Mich. (WXYZ) - A Subway restaurant in Harper Woods was robbed by a man who waited in line and first ordered a submarine sandwich.
When Cameron Lacy was asked to make a foot long sub on Thursday, the sandwich artist had no idea the man making the request had an ulterior motive.
It happened at the Subway on Kelly Road in Harper Woods on Thursday around 5:17 p.m. At least three or four customers were inside the restaurant.
“He was in line just being himself and I never would’ve expected it,” said Cameron Lacy.
The man waited in line for at least ten minutes. When it was his turn, the order was pretty regular at first. The man, who can be seen in a knit cap on the store surveillance video, wanted a steak and cheese submarine.
“I actually asked him if he wanted to make that a meal, but that was before I knew what he was doing,” said Lacy. Lacy never expected that the guy wanted more than just that sandwich.
“I saw him put a gun on the table and he said, give me all your money. I said, are you for real? And he said yeah. So I gave him all the money,” said Lacy.
The guy walked out of the subway with the gun, a handful of cash, and he didn’t forget to grab his steak and cheese sub. He was last seen running across Kelly Road and into Detroit. Lacy said the man was so calm that no one else in the store except his coworkers knew what was happening. “I was shocked, but I wasn’t nervous or anything that it was happening,” said Lacy.
Lacy said that later he even finished out the rest of his shift.
