DETROIT, Mich. (WXYZ) - A Detroit woman involved in a multiple car crash on the Ohio Turnpike is dead.
The five vehicle crash that involved a 40 passenger motor coach happened late Friday night in Amherst Township.
Police said 40-year-old Cynthia Dent crashed on the turnpike and her vehicle got stuck. The tour bus hit her from behind and caused a chain reaction of crashes. Dent grew up in the Cleveland area and was visiting her family.
“The neighbors just came by and said that they were sorry. They didn’t even know Cynthia, but said how she was such a friendly person when they saw her. She was so nice and just loved being around people,” said Talitha Johnson.
Johnson spoke for her sister Ty this evening at the couple’s home on the southwest side of Detroit. Her sister and Dent had plans next month to get married.
“The devastation really hit her hard, my sister that is,” said Johnson.
After a three year engagement the couple decided to move to the Cleveland Heights area with their 6-year-old daughter. That is where Dent is originally from.
“It meant a lot to her, and it brought her happiness. She took a lot of time with her, she was very happy,” said Johnson.
The only person to be hospitalized was the driver of the motor coach. At last check he was in stable condition. Dent had been a health care worker and most recently studied sign language so she could work with deaf children.
“She was very happy, she loved children,” said Johnson.
After their big move to Ohio, the couple had plans to expand their family and adopt a baby girl. Police believe the rainy weather and wet roads played a factor in the crash. They are also looking into whether or not alcohol and speed played factors.
