Accused drunk dad who let 9-year-old daughter drive bound over for trial

BROWNSTOWN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WXYZ) - A man accused of letting his 9-year-old daughter drive because he was drunk has been bound over for trial.

Shawn Weimer, 39, is facing child endangerment charges, including one felony, for the incident that reportedly happened on Saturday, October 8 at approximately 3:00 a.m. in Brownstown Township.

Surveillance video from a Citgo Gas station shows Weimer getting out of his van on the passenger’s side while his daughter hopped out of the driver’s side.

Weimer can be seen on camera claiming to be drunk and calling his daughter his “designated driver.” On tape you can hear, “She drives us here. I swear to you. Nine. Nine-years-old. Gas, Break. I’m drunk.”

A witness called 911. On an audio recording the caller says “Just watched a van pull out of the Citgo Gas station 7-year-old girl is driving it, her dad is drunk and he is in the passenger.”

When the dispatcher asks if the van is staying on the road the caller replies, “She’s driving pretty good. I’m telling you, I can’t believe it.”

A judge has ordered Weimer to wear a SCRAM alcohol monitor.

The judge also ordered that Weimer cannot have any unsupervised visits with anyone under the age of 18-years-old.
