DETROIT (WXYZ) - Even before he was arrested and charged in the murder of Jane Bashara, Joe Gentz told friends that he feared Bob Bashara might try to kill him to keep him quiet .

Days after Jane's body was found in the back seat of her car on Detroit's east side, Gentz told police that Bob Bashara hired him to kill his wife and then forced him at gunpoint to strangle her in the garage of the couple's Grosse Pointe Park home.

On Monday, Bob Bashara was arrested , accused of trying to hire someone to kill Joe Gentz inside Wayne County's Dickerson Detention Facility where Gentz is jailed.

"This arrest shows that his life was at risk," said Gentz's defense attorney Susan Reed.

Reed tells 7 Action News that about a month ago, she received a phone call from someone who indicated that her client's life was in danger. Reed says she called jail officials after learning of the possible threat.

"I hope my client stays safe. And I hope the truth comes out about what actually happened and what his involvement was," said Reed.
