GROSSE POINTE PARK, Mich. (WXYZ) - So far no arrests have been made in the murder of 56-year-old Jane Bashara and the case garners more media attention by the day. Early Monday morning, ABC News Crews were in Grosse Pointe Park broadcasting live for Good Morning America. During that same broadcast, Nancy Grace and Dan Abrams discussed the facts of the case and why Bob Bashara has become the focus of part of the investigation.
For the first time since Bob Bashara was identified as a person of interest in his wife’s murder case, his family is speaking out to defend him.
“Everybody knows my brother and knows he is incapable of this act,” said Laura Maurer Sunday afternoon. “We are totally supporting him. Family community, friends and we are totally supporting him. He is an innocent man. ”
On Friday, Bashara was named as the sole person of interest by Grosse Pointe Park Police Chief David Hiller in the murder of his wife, Jane.
Bob Bashara reported her missing to police around 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Her body was found in her vehicle on Detroit’s east side Wednesday morning.
“We know he’s incapable of this horrific act,” said Maurer.
Bob and Jane have a son and daughter. Both have come back to their Grosse Pointe Park home since learning about their mother’s death. “You’ve got two kids in there that have lost their mother and they have such faith in their father,” said Gwenn Samuel, Bob’s godmother and aunt. “They are in sorrow, just sorrow. ”
Early Monday morning, there were no signs of Bob Bashara at the couples home, as nearly a half dozen visitors entered and exited. One woman left with what appeared to be a garment bag in the hours just before Jane Bashara's viewing. Neighbors say it's hard to believe such a beloved woman is gone and equally troubling is the fact that her husband has become a person of interest.
