(WXYZ) - Former Highland Park Emergency Financial Manager Arthur Blackwell tells Action News today that he is elated and relieved after Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Cynthia Gray Hathaway threw out the Embezzlenment charge against him.
Blackwell said that following the case he is most disappointed in former Governor Jennifer Granholm because she had the power to clear up the confusion much sooner. "I've been kinowing her for 25 years" said Blackwell. "All she had to do was say what she had said, but we could never get her or anyone else to say it."
Blackwell said he agreed to accept the job as financial manager for just $1 for the first year, but that he and the former Governor agreed that he could be paid for the following years. Governor Granholm admitted that they had agreed that he should be paid, but never discussed an amount.
Judge Hathaway said today that Blackwell had the authority to write himself checks for more than $200,000.
Blackwell says he hopes to land a job consulting. "I still love government, I love politics, I love business and I love Highland Park" Blackwell said.
Prosecutor Kym Worthy is reviewing the Judge's ruling and may appeal.
