CHOPPER VIDEO: Crews rescue dog and man stuck on ice near Pointe Mouillee State Game Area

(WXYZ) - Chopper 7 was over the scene as rescue crews responded to a man and dog stuck on the ice.

The rescue took place Thursday afternoon near the Pointe Mouillee State Game Area at the mouth of the Huron River, where it meets Lake Erie.

Crews from Grosse Ile and Brownstown Township responded to the scene.

Family members tell 7 Action News Jim Swayze was walking his dogs when one of them ran off and fell into the water at Pointe Mouillee. He tried to get the dog but was unsuccessful.

Family members say he  then called 911 and his wife. His wife called her cousin and he came out and jumped in the water to help the 11-year-old hound.

Rescue crews were able to get the man and dog out of the water.
